2018 Lt. Governor’s & BC Wine Awards
The pomp, the circumstance. The hatch. It all comes together at the Laurel Packing, where the elite of the BC wine industry come together in celebration and judgement of each other. Oh the highs, the lows! The tears, the laughter. The friendships that will last forever. And the medals, to which we brought a few of them home.
the hatch 2015 Ross 3.0 – Bronze
the hatch 2017 B. Yanco – Silver
the hatch 2015 ‘The Smokeshow’ – Silver
the hatch 2016 ‘Dynasty Red’ – GOLD
Black Swift Vineyards 2016 ‘Kurkjian Farm’ Riesling – Nothing but this wine is amazing, doesn’t need a medal
Black Swift Vineyards 2015 ‘The Long Road’ Syrah – Serious, how didn’t this win anything? Leaves the rest of the results in serious doubt.
This text box has some space to fill so it looks balanced, so why not just mention that? That ‘Smokeshow’ is pretty dang tasty though, that one I can agree with. New vintage of Dynasty Red is solid too, definitely my favourite Dynasty yet. There’s just no accounting for some tastes, am I right? After the show we can get to taste all the Gold and better wines, and some were definitely deserving, some of those winners were questionable to say the least. Not much we can do about that though. Just keep on keeping on I reckon. When it comes down to it, you just gotta believe in your craft and carry on, you know? There’s a certain ‘sameness’ that seems to win wine awards, and I’m proud that our wines don’t follow that convention. Not just the marketer in me speaking, but maybe not winning is what makes these wines the biggest winners after all? Yes, that will do just fine.
